About

Janey Summer is a mould-breaking female singer and songwriter based in the west of England.

Why mould-breaking? Well, for starters, her influences include the likes of Alter Bridge, Bad Company, Dio, A Perfect Circle, Creed and Audioslave. Not your typical female influences…..

And secondly, she is determined to be faithful to her passion for full-on powerful but intelligent rock – to not be drawn into the ‘easier’ routes for female artists of shiny pop-rock, ballgowned goth-rock or flaky folk-rock.  She is definitely no Katy Perry, Amy Lee or Shania Twain.

Janey recorded, produced and self-released a debut solo album ‘Along the Way’ in late 2008, which met with a healthy batch of reviews from the likes of Fireworks Magazine, The Rock and Roll Report, Rocksnail, Femme Metal magazine and Ravenheart Music who described it as “powerful melodic rock with a voice to die for.”

The album then came to the attention of Holier Than Thou records, who were impressed with Janey’s commitment to quality, and licensed it for general release in February 2009. Courtesy of HTT records, Janey’s path into radio airplay was begun, and her first single release ‘You Rock (My Chemistry)’ has proved to be an enduring favourite – even now people will ask Janey to play the song, even at acoustic gigs! The single also made the playlists of Radio Caroline, ARfm, and Radio 2XS as well as spot play on many other independent stations – including the local BBC station (although the DJ was breaking the rules a bit for that one!)

Follow up singles ‘Seeing You’, ‘Sometimes’ and ‘Time Will Tell’ (released as an EP in January 2012) met with the same positive radio and press support and further developed Janey’s fan base across the UK, Europe and the Americas.  With Janey’s passion to be an all-out rock artist, one particular comment from Rock Reviews put a big smile on her face… “proper rock – Janey Summer shows that the women can compare with the men … a voice that could fill arenas..”

Juicy stuff.

A period of serious illness meant Janey had to take a back-seat from music for much of 2011 and 2012. But thankfully her fans stuck by her, and offered immense support and encouragement to her during that time.  Now in 2013, she’s pleased to be back, fighting fit and excited to be working on material for a new album, which she hopes to record later in the year.

In the words of Tony Cannella, from Femme Metal, “we have not heard the last of Janey Summer.”

Indeed you have not.
